TS#14 with
Nhung @ 2:50-3:50 12/5/2018
Today I meet
with Nhung for the last time. In today’s session we started out with the game
hangman! The phrase to guess was, “Today’s our last meeting L”.
After the game we moved on to watch two short clips from the
movie, The Dead Poets Society.
The other urls and ones we also used!
(Prior to watching I gave her a
summary/ setting for reference.)
The first
clip is the scene that describes the Latin phrase “carpe diem”. Carpe diem
means to seize the day. The English translation/ definition that we inferred
was- to not focus on worrying about yesterday, or tomorrow, but instead living
for today.
The second
clip was the scene, “Oh captain… my captain”.
In this scene the boys stand up for
their teacher. The boys showed courage and sacrifice. I then asked her when have you shown
courage?
I then flipped the scenario around and asked
if the teacher was courageous? After the discussion we looked up the poem, Oh captain….my captain ,written by Walt
Whitman. I compared the teacher’s sacrifice of his job to the captain
sacrifice from the poem.
This was a really good lesson and I plan to use it again! As teachers, we are to encourage and that is what this lesson does!!
After the Dead Poet material we still had time
left, so I asked Nhung which celebrity is courageous and why? She said Lady Gaga!! Gaga is the perfect example of being courageous and standing up for what she believes in. Gaga is known for her crazy outfits and songs. One of the
songs that we discussed was Born this way.
