Harrison Butcher TS#15
For this tutoring session, Ali and I worked on reducing sentences using conjunctive that phrases and adverb clauses. In order to do this, I showed Ali the pattern that each of these topics follow. For example, conjunctive that phrases always follow the pattern verb+that+clause (the study indicates that…). Once he understood the order each piece of the sentence needed to be in, we were able to quickly navigate a number of example sentences provided by the teacher. Ali speaks English well and his writing is always well organized and interesting. On the other hand, he sometimes struggles putting some of these more complex grammar concepts into practice. In order to practice noticing each part of the sentence, I had Ali highlight the parts of speech so that he could build a stronger visual association as to how the different phrases should fit together.
