Harrison Butcher TS # 12
For this tutoring session, Maria decided to start from scratch on her essay based on the feedback from her teacher. Though this was a bit disheartening, we reviewed a lot of the criticism and realized there were a lot of organization problems in the text. We started with the first paragraph. I had her make a bullet point list to outline her main topic and supporting sentences. Maria explained to me that because Spanish is such a romantic language, she tends to embellish her sentences with extra information when she writes in English. As I helped her rework her first paragraph, I pointed out pieces of information that seemed out of place or unnecessary. Maria then removed those pieces of information and rewrote the sentences to be more straightforward. Once we finished, Maria had a very succinct first paragraph for her essay.
